I recently unearthed these photos from a visit to the National Building Museum on December 20, 2016. The Timber City exhibit discusses the use of wood as a building material in modern day construction. I learned a lot about the modern lumber industry (way more high-tech than I ever expected!), but what caught my eye was the use of wood in the exhibit design. I love how they used wood for the text panels; in the image below, you can see how they mounted descriptive text of the different types of wood material directly on the material described. Not only do these panels work thematically, but they are also freestanding and easy to move–perfect for a temporary exhibit. (Note: the gallery itself was small and easily-monitored by staff, so toppling-concern was minimal).
